How to Sing Bass Singing Tips Discussion With Paul Harkey
A tenor singer is the same way as a bass singer relax and sing. Have your voice work for you instead of you working for your voice.
I agree with him. I heard George Younce say the same thing. Me hittind a B0 didn't come until I got older, and learned to relax.
My voice isn't the same at 25 as it is at 45.
How to create an unnatural and restricted tone
My speaking voice is a deep baritone and I have been mistaken for a bass although I do not have that typical rumbling-bassy-sound only a true bass can produce.
I appreciate all info you have to learn from , GREAT STUFF
Love Matt Fouch singing! Aaron is great also! 😍😍😍
Love these videos! They’ve helped me as a young aspiring bass singer tremendously. Can’t wait for the next one! Can you possibly have a tip video with Tim Duncan from Canton Junction? Would love to hear his tips as well!! Thanks Matt
Yoo that’s my uncle
11:48 Paul's another of my FAVES!!! I know he doesn't travel anymore, but U should get Glen Dustin on here sometime. Then there's Tim Duncan & Wyatt Austin. 😊
9:45 LOVE LOVE LOVE TERRY CARTER'S VOICE!!!
Matt, U should SO get Jeff's cousin Kirk (Chapman) on here someday as well as Clayton Inman's brother Keith. The only times Keith has traveled professionally is when he filled in w/Mark Trammell B4 he hired Will & B4 Anthem Edition hired Andrew.
Hey dude! Could these bass tips apply to a high-baritone? I’m trying to get to where I can sing at family gatherings as a bass - like only really reaching F2. I say high-baritone because my lowest note period is F#2. My lowest is G2 on a good day. My lowest on average without practice the day before is A2. G2 and A2 become fairly projectable when I do extensive practice beforehand and I’m not trained at all lol. I just started singing in April and didn’t sing a note beforehand, so it could be that my voice is still needing to be unlocked. Not to mention I’m only 19. Yes, my major voice change has happened. But my uncle (sadly not related so I don’t have the same genes lol) had my talking voice at my age and his voice dropped 100% to bass level. Anywho, I really would like the ability to sing bass with my family. If you read all of this, I must say, good job XD this was pretty long. Thanks dude and God bless, and the same to anyone else who may be reading and responding to this! ✝️
My warm up song is Hold To Your Heart by Exile doing the lead to exercise my vocals then. Anything Richard Sterban
@BassSingingCentralMatt The placement doesn't go into the throat nor the nose. People have different definitions of what a "mask" is or isn't and so, therefore, saying to sing in the "mask" is a bit too vague. The way most people state it, which is around the nose area, is actually not a good placement (unless your singing with your mouth closed for a consonant than it's okay). I, personally, place my low notes about the roof of my tongue, almost in the "mask" but not quite. Some people say crazy things such as their low notes coming out of there eye balls, but that never worked for me. But of course, you should never sing in the throat either otherwise you'll sound "dark" in a funny-sounding way. Could that be perhaps because I'm a baritone? Do baritones and basses sing low notes differently? Also, my definition of low notes are probably different from yours. A2 is on the lower part of my range (comfortable, but definitely not in the middle) for example, and also G2 (also comfortable and I can project it). An example of a note that would probably be more on the low end for you would be E2 (not too low for you I hear you speak resonantly lower than that). Are the techniques of basses and baritones different?
Is he related to the Big Show? He looks like he could be his little brother.
I would love to meet him in person
His he still alive
Interesting to hear about how Tim can sing so low notes. I absolutely love his voice, both when he sing and talk.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Best advice ever; don’t worry about the lows right now focus on singing correctly. Be a good singer with a low voice.
Pat is freaking hilarious!!!😂

the dude in the glasses sounds like a bass Hank Hill when he speaks, great voice
I asked Tim Riley to give me a tip when I was about 25 about singing bass. He said, “keep doin what you’re doing and when you hit oh about 35your voice is gonna drop again.”
Matt I remember when you came to my church. Way back when Soul’d Out first started…. I think you guys had that live service in Mt Orab recorded but that’s it. You’ve always been a blessing buddy.
Connecting with the people is another thing that made George Younce so great. He connected with the people. Of course he was one of the greatest bass singers of all time, but it's his connection with the people is what made him so memorable many years after he has passed on.

and the deaths of the pandemic things were so different. People were doing their best to keep up their spirits, nobody knew when the thing would be over or at least winding down.

That was such a cool interview, Geoff is a super talented and humble person!
Many of your interviews say to stay away from certain foods for good bass singing, but no one ever states what exactly they are. Is it dairy?
I sure did enjoy your interview with Jim Verwoerd I was hoping you would sing
Road Trip is Great also look up the Chicken Song ! LOL I Love my ACA Boys because they don't take themselves too seriously #HomeFree and #VoicePlay are the absolute Best ! I do not want to live in a world that doesn't have these 2 groups AND #AviKaplanSolo These are the very best Human Beings that ever humaned. *chuckle Yup just making up words but I mean them !
Don't judge a book by its cover = don't judge any singer based on their speaking voice . :) Although I am a bass with a rather deep natural voice, I have been purposely talking "higher" pretty much since my voice dropped many decades ago because it was easier for people to hear, but when i relax more and don't think about it, it often drops to a more comfortable natural voice spot without even realizing it, and thankfully over the years, teaching, presentations, theatre, singing or trying to carry a tune, narrating, voice over, and voice acting, all helped me learn to project it better when i do speak in a more natural comfortable range, so its like i have multiple natural comfortable speaking voice ranges to some extent, but i don't and won't purposely make an effort to go to the absolute bottom and stay there for no good reason, for those same reasons your vocal coach told you and you shared here. Good job yet again good sir. Stay safe and stay awesome. 👍👍🙃✌️
So glad that you had all the different bass singers on here, especially Eric as he is just fantastic. Hope you get the chance to have more of them from different genres and styles too, like Barry Carl, Elliot Micheal Robinson, Avi Kaplan, Glenn Miller, Josh Turner, and Thou Bass2Yang, the young guys like Xander the octavist, groups like The Bass Gang, The Wellermen, and what about Broadway artists like Patrick Page, and the list goes on and on, but I'll stop there. :) If you get the chance may you could even collaborate sometime for more Bass-tastic awesomeness. Regardless, stay safe and stay awesome. 👍👍🙃✌️
The length that you held that, the power you have behind it, and the ease with which you transition before and after it, are all fantastic. Bass-tastic awesomeness. Stay safe and stay awesome. 👏👍👍🙃✌️
How long did it take for you to become a bass and how did it happen?
Love this! God bless both of you guys!
I want a vocal exercise to reach these low notes❤
Awww I love Geoff. He is absolutely my fave!!!
You should have a podcast
Great interview! Applicable to the spoken voice as well! Thanks for putting in the effort to share this great man’s techniques with the world! Knowledge and wisdom passed on!!! Daniel Avinash Poetry Unforgotten
Thanks Matt for the info! Very good tips to work on.
Jeff is the real deal. I just opened for Gold City 2 weeks ago. He is the best bass singing today. To know I'm almost the same age as him. In our group I sing all parts. My lowest note is like a booster box for him. Lol
Jeff i remember you from the Anchormen
Great tips only IF you’re not a true bass and trying to be one. A true bass wouldn’t need to do this. A basso profundo or oktavist just stand there and sing! 😅
What nice a guy...😊
Great Interview.
my grandpa has a similar voice to his
Ray Reese criticism 😊
What is true larynx position?
